How we can help
Free Open Days
We hold an open day at the Straw Bale Cottage every year. Entry is free of charge. There is lots of information on display and we are on hand to answer questions.

In 2009 we held a “grand opening” on Friday 31 July 2009 (10am – 6pm) and Saturday 1 August 2009 (10am – 4pm).
We also had a special open day on Saturday 12 September 2009 to coincide with the Heritage day in Howden, organised by Howden Civic Society.
Special Open Days
We set aside two weeks in the booking diary to stage open days for schools, colleges, universities, architects and special interest groups to study our straw bale buildings. Displays, information, demonstrations and talks are tailored accordingly.
Contact Home Grown Home for dates, prices and to discuss your specific requirements.
Training & Courses
We run straw bale and lime and clay plastering courses at The Straw Bale Cottage. Our next course will run on the weekend of 17th and 18th April 2010. During the course we will construct a straw bale wall and use lime and clay plasters. We will cover all the basic principles and techniques of straw bale building albeit on a smaller scale! Click here for further details.
We can run courses and training sessions in straw bale building, lime rendering and clay plastering anywhere in the UK.
Contact Home Grown Home to discuss your requirements.
Lectures, presentations and talks
We can tailor our presentation for any audience from professional to general interest. To date we have shared our straw bale experience with MSc Architecture students, Eco builders and architects, school children, women in business, farmers looking to diversify, holiday accommodation providers, WI, NWR, U3A to name but a few.
